Chiller supply and return temperature monitoring

To monitor a chiller's supply and return temperature remotely, put a temperature sensor on the chiller's supply and another on its return, and track the difference between them, the Delta-T.

Charlotte alerts you when Delta-T drifts outside the range you set, and its chiller page shows the trend so your engineer can see when it started.

How Charlotte measures chiller Delta-T

A pair of wireless temperature sensors on the chiller's supply and return gives Charlotte its Delta-T, the temperature difference across the unit.

Charlotte pairs a supply reading only with a return reading taken close to it in time. If one sensor stops reporting, the chiller page marks the chiller as waiting for both sensors and labels the last Delta-T with when it was measured, so an old reading is not shown as current.

Alerts when Delta-T drifts

You set the Delta-T range you expect. When Delta-T drifts outside it, your team gets an alert by email, Slack, browser push or a webhook into your own system, and the chiller page shows the trend so your engineer can see when it started.

What chiller monitoring with Charlotte does not do

Charlotte monitors; it does not control the chiller and does not connect to your BMS. It also does not estimate energy or cost savings. It is a separate layer of wireless sensors with its own dashboard and alerts, so there is no controls project.

Building monitoring questions, answered

What is chiller Delta-T?

The temperature difference between a chiller's supply and its return. Charlotte measures it with one wireless temperature sensor on the supply and one on the return, and shows the trend on its chiller page.

Can I get an alert when chiller Delta-T drifts?

Yes. You set the Delta-T range you expect, and Charlotte alerts your team by email, Slack, browser push or a webhook into your own system when Delta-T drifts outside it.

Does remote chiller monitoring need a connection to the BMS?

Not with Charlotte. The supply and return sensors are battery powered and wireless, and Charlotte does not connect to your BMS or control the chiller, so there is no controls project.
